Wien
Juli 2003

This vacation stood actually under a bad star: I condemned the early morining stood up, because our plane left Dortmund at 6 o'clock. But it was many more worse that I got a call from my aunt  at 12 am o'clock that my Grandpa had come into the hospital. Therefore I wasn't really in mood for vacation.

In Vienna we enjoyed a cloudless sky with 36°C. It was necessary to as often fill up the liquid household as possible. And beleive me, we did it in the several bars and coffee houses. The hotel was convenient and we explored the city first by foot. Vienna is leisurely and has very much charm. The many historical buildings, like the Schönbrunn Palace, the Stephans-Cathedral, the Karl's Church, the City Hall, the Votiv-Church and  the many small lanes bewitched us. Naturally there were many tourists on the way, but we found some small roads to feel like in the last century  - the time, when Beethoven and Mozart made the city uncertain. In the evening we were very tired. All of us - Kai, Kuschel and Schauti - were exhausted from the heat and the long day. And since our time in Münster we weren't in training. I fell asleep already when we watched the Tour de France in TV and so we went well-behaved to bed after dinner.

On the following day we were fully motivated and so we decided to "make meters". The first destinantion was the Schönbrunn Palace. We changed on the traces of Sissi and emperors Franz and spent all day long in the large gardens. A challenge was the labyrinth in the palace gardens. Here we lost Kai on the way and it were big fun to to see him from a platform above, how he did not find the way to the exit. In the evening we decided to visit an original "Heurigen". We didn't went to Grinzing, where all the tourists are. We found a small, but original "Heurigen" in Nussdorf.

Naturally was the Prater with the legendary giant wheel missing. We sauntered in the large park with its big leisure offer and entered the gient wheel. However Vienna from the air is not particularly spectacular, because the buildings are not high. Nevertheless it was good to sit after this streneous day and in the car next to us they did a photoshooting, also very interesting!

On the last day we visited Mozart's grave on the cemetery St. Marx and went to Donau Island. Unfortunately we did not have the Inliner with us. But the beer gardens on the bank of the Donau River were very seductive. Summing up Vienna was very, very beautiful. A cosy city, which can be explored comfortably by foot. By the large cultural offer, like open air concerts at the town hall, it becomes not boringly. And in addition we had imoudently great wheater...  Look forward to Vienna.
